Year 6 Transition

Making the move from primary school to secondary school is an exciting time, with lots of changes to prepare for; a new timetable, new teachers and even new friends. To help students make the move a little easier we will include all of our information on this page.

During the Spring and Summer terms, Mr Blunt will be working closely with all our feeder primary schools. He will collaborate with the students' current Year 6 teachers and explore the best ways to support the children through the transition process.

The following dates below have been updated for the September 2027 new starters Year 6 / 7 transition process.

Key Dates for 2027 September entry

- 'Getting to Know Ely College' (ONLINE) — Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd September 6.00pm–8.00pm.

This presentation explains our tailored induction process, how to apply for a Year 7 place, and what Ely College can offer your child. It is aimed at the adults in the family. Children are very welcome to come along, but the content and themes are pitched at parents and carers.

The talk runs on both evenings and covers the same ground, so please choose whichever suits you best. It takes place here at Ely College in our main A Block Hall. Parking on site is limited, so we would be grateful if families could walk or cycle where possible. SLIDES FROM THESE EVENTS ARE AVAILABLE BELOW

- Open Evening — Thursday 22nd October, with ten-minute arrival slots starting from 5.30pm - 8.00pm.

Open Evening is your chance to meet our staff, see the site and our facilities in action, and get a real feel for our ethos and values. Our students play a big part in the evening, and they are usually the best guides to what life here is actually like.

A booking link for this event will be sent out to parents in the coming weeks.

Our Sixth Form Open Event runs alongside Open Evening on Thursday 22nd October, and it will be open to all visitors. You are warmly encouraged to look in, even at this early stage. Most of our students join us in Year 7 and stay with us through to Year 13, and being able to see both ends of that journey on the same evening gives you a genuine sense of where it leads. It is a good opportunity for your child to picture what their seven years with us might look like.
