Thank you for visiting our website. The links below will give you access to our information for students and applicants who are due to join us in September 2020 and also to transition work which has been provided by our subject teams to help with preparation for sixth form in these unusual circumstances.
Bishop Laney Sixth Form aims to provide a thriving centre of academic and professional 16-19 excellence. The academic and ecclesiastic legacy of Bishop Laney (1590-1674) is significant locally, and his commitment to the importance of education and training is timeless and embedded within the Sixth Form’s culture.
Our post-16 offer is called Bishop Laney Sixth Form.
Students are provided with a clear and focused selection of study programmmes to tie in with their future aspirations. Offering a dedicated business mentor from the local community, every course the Bishop Laney Sixth Form will offer has a clear professional relevance to it, giving students the widest possible range of future options; be that university, a career or an apprenticeship.
As a Bishop Laney Sixth Form student, you will be encouraged to engage in planned work-related learning to include relevant work-experience, as well as receiving impartial careers advice and guidance. The enrichment programme set forth by Soham and Ely will continue to grow and provides students with a variety of volunteering, physical and leadership opportunities. In the past students have had the opportunity to build new classrooms in Kenya, experience Auschwitz and tour New York and Washington DC.
Soham Village College and Ely College are delighted to be working in partnership to ensure that there is excellent provision on offer in our community. We are very proud of the achievements of past students in recent years. Most of students have gone on to their first choices of university for further study, or to their chosen places of work, either as apprentices or employees. These achievements are a tribute to their positive approach, aided by good teaching and close pastoral support and monitoring. Bishop Laney Sixth Form hopes to build on this by incorporating close links with business partners and mentors. Above all, every student is treated as an individual and provided with a wide range of opportunities to develop as a well-rounded person.
We look forward to welcoming applications for September but before then we can offer you a wide range of support with your progression choices. Please take a look at our new prospectus and the forth coming Bishop Laney website to get more information about this exciting new offer; come along to our Open Evening on the 30th October, or contact main school to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our friendly, forward thinking new sixth form.
