Bishop Laney Sixth Form

Education does not end in the classroom, which is why we set aside an afternoon each week for a wide variety of enrichment activities, offering all students opportunities to broaden their skills, try out new activities, compete on behalf of the Sixth Form, or simply unwind. The programme changes termly but the activities and courses available will include:

  • Life Skills programmes such as first aid, self-defence, touch typing, car maintenance, pre-driving theory, beginner’s Spanish, Community Sports Leaders Award and Microsoft Academy
  • A wide range of both competitive and casual sports, including football, netball, mixed hockey, golf, basketball, tennis, badminton, volleyball, softball, archery and aerobics
  • A wide variety of volunteering opportunities, ranging from assisting in schools to tackling environmental problems; from DJing in a youth club to sports coaching or peer group mentoring to prevent alcohol or drug abuse
  • Clubs and Societies such as Young Enterprise, Film Club, Art Club, photography and a Debating Society

As a member of the Bishop Laney Sixth Form, you will be challenged to get involved in the daily activities at both Ely College and Soham Village College as well as engaging with the wider community. This could include organising activities for children with special needs, assisting with displays around the colleges, representing the colleges in sporting or academic events, working on college newspapers, and so on.

Bishop Laney Sixth Form will be expanding its range of international trips, however previous adventures included visits to New York, Naples, Paris and an annual mission in Africa for the Habitat for Humanity charity.
