Bishop Laney Sixth Form

Bishop Laney Post 16 Provision

Bishop Laney Post 16 Provision

Whether you are hoping to use your studies here to move directly on to higher education, work or an apprenticeship, our approach will help you build a course that’s right for you.

Students who leave Bishop Laney, have been well prepared to take the next steps into adult life, and we will continue to focus on this, preparing you for professional life, allowing you a wide range of options to choose from.

About 50% of our leavers each year have decided to go straight on to university. In recent years students started degree programmes at a number of universities across the country; from Sheffield, Newcastle and Liverpool in the North to Portsmouth, Southampton and others in the south; as well as universities in London; and closer to home, our near neighbours the University of East Anglia and Anglia Ruskin.University.

For the 30% or so who choose to go into employment or apprenticeships, prospects in the Soham and Ely area are currently better than in most of the rest of the UK. In recent years, students from the College have found employment or training with, amongst others, Price Waterhouse, Carl Zeiss, the John Lewis Partnership, Arcadia and ABN AMRO.

Others have stayed on at the sixth form - or enrolled with other further education colleges - to complement their courses with additional FE study, specialising for a future career or preparing for a future university application.

An increasing number of our leavers are now undertaking a gap year before attending university, most of whom spend time working and travelling abroad.

The starting point for choosing a course at Bishop Laney Sixth Form will be a conversation about your career or higher education ambitions. You will then choose from a growing range of academic and technical courses.
