Welcome to Seacole House

Due to our growth, we are so proud to launch our new House. Putting it to a vote, students and staff decided that we would honour Mary Seacole, a British-Jamaican nurse and businesswoman who set up the ‘British Hotel’ on the battlefields of the Crimean War. Students will learn lots about her over the year, but it was her compassion, bravery and savvy skills that earned her recognition. In more recent years she was voted as the ‘Greatest Black Briton’ and was awarded posthumously the Jamaican Order of Merit.
It is this medal that we styled our new House emblem on. The flowers around its edge symbolise the purple (Mrs Mustill’s favourite colour!) Jamaican national flower and we added the nursing cross. We are so pleased we could make this decision together as a community, offering students, staff and you guys as new Year 7s, a democratic experience in naming the new House. We know that those of you who join the new Seacole House will soon cheer the name on with pride, as loudly as we all do in our current houses.
