Examinations & Revision

Exams Information

Whilst our approach to education at Ely College is about much more than the qualifications you leave with, examinations are a very important feature of our curriculum. To be a successful student, you will need to master exam techniques and get to know the rules and regulations set by national authorities to ensure that exams are fair, secure, and robust.

2021 Summer Examinations Appeals

You will find a copy of the appeals guidance letter as a PDF at the bottom of this page.

This page provides easy to access and up-to-date information on examinations.

Please find below links to a number of documents that provide important information on what to expect during examinations. These include current timetables and regulations from the Joint Council for Qualifications and Exam Boards. These rules and regulations must be adhered to by all students taking examinations at Ely College.

Any further questions about examinations should be addressed to Miss J Osborne, Examinations Officer - exams@elycollege.co.uk.

Year 10 Mocks

Year 11 Assessment Overview for 2021

The tables below will give you an overview of the assessment evidence being used in each subject. This could vary significantly from subject to subject depending on the nature of the course, sequencing of the curriculum and assessment completed prior to lockdown. Some subjects who undertake significant elements of ‘Non-Examined Assessment’, or who have completed significant high-control ‘exam conditions’ assessment already may be able to use a smaller number of assessment points, whereas others may need to draw on a wider range of smaller, in-class assessments. Our quality assurance process will ensure that there is equity between subjects with different styles of assessment.

Our centre assessment policy, which sets out how will assess and what material we will assess,  has been submitted to JCQ and been approved as meeting their expectations.  You can find a copy of this approved policy at the base of this page.

Assessments that we draw upon to generate an overall grade will either be ‘High’, ‘Medium’ or ‘Low’ control. High control assessments are those completed in school under exam conditions, Medium control assessments are those completed in class but not under exam conditions such as topic tests, Low control assessment would refer to those assessments which are completed independently outside of school. All can form a part of the overall evidence considered.

We cannot share the final grade we submit to the exam boards. This is stipulated by JCQ and the Exam boards and is a result of the external quality assurance that will take place after we submit grades on the 18th of June which could lead to further changes.

We will not be ‘grading’ individual assessments as this can be misleading for students and parents. The overall grade is a holistic judgement; this means that it is not possible to provide representative grades on one individual assessment. Numerical marks can and will be shared from individual assessments, and there may contribute to the final overall judgement which is made when all the evidence is drawn together.

Remind yourself on the rules. Here is a great video from JCQ about 'No mobile phones in exams'. A short film for exam candidates about the rules on mobile phones. This applies to ALL exams.

As you may be aware, 2017 sees a change to the way some GCSE's are graded. Starting with English and Maths, GCSE grades in England will be graded from 9 to 1. This video helps explain this:
