Ely College

Tuesday 19th July - heatwave

We will be shortening lessons on Tuesday 19th of July to close to students at 13:05

Adjustments to the school day – Tuesday 19th July 2022

Thank you for your support today. We have had very good attendance and have managed the high temperatures well through mitigations and re-rooming to avoid the warmest spaces throughout the day.

However, looking at the forecast tomorrow, it will be 2-3 degrees warmer and, importantly, it is forecast to be warmer earlier on in the day. For this reason, we intend to condense the timetable and finish lessons at 1.05pm on Tuesday 19th July 2022.  This will avoid the hottest parts of the day and minimise disruption to learning.

2a break will be: 9.35am to 10.05am

2b break will be: 10:25 am to 10:55

4a break will be: 11.40am to 12.10pm

4b break will be: 12:30pm to 12:55pm

We expect the buses to arrive early, and we will accommodate any children who need to remain in school until 3pm in air-conditioned spaces. Those remaining will be able to complete homework or be given work. If you need your child to remain in college until 3pm, then please let the House office know by 11am tomorrow.

We are trying to balance safety, comfort and the needs of families in making these decisions. In the interests of safety, we will be asking and expecting all students to go straight home at 1.05pm tomorrow and not congregate elsewhere in Ely or near open waters.

College will open as normal on Wednesday 20th July. Many thanks for your understanding and support.
