Welcome to Equiano House
Named after Olaudah Equiano, a former enslaved African, who became a prominent abolitionist and writer. Kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery, he purchased his freedom in 1766. He had travelled widely and wrote an autobiography that exposed the horrors of slavery. His lifetime of activism changed public perception and the British slave trade was abolished in 1807.
