Our Year 12s and 13s studying the social sciences, were taken on a trip yesterday to Shrewsbury Prison... but don't worry, they all came back - we didn't lock them up for long!
49 students taking criminology, sociology or psychology were treated to a tour of the prison. Listening to past wardens and ex guards, they learnt how prisons are run and how best to manage the inmate dynamics. Enjoying the atmosphere, they listened to some moving stories and gained an understanding of how the prison service has changed over the centuries/decades.
After the tour they enjoyed some more educational activities before taking part in an Escape Room style game - out of the 10 groups, only 3 escaped their cells within the time limit!
They commented on what a fun and memorable day they'd all had; enjoying the immersive experiences thoroughly and thanked the prison staff and guides for their time and knowledgeable insights.
