Introductory Information

Dear Parent / Carer

I hope that your son / daughter is settling well into life at Bishop Laney Sixth Form and is feeling positive about the start they have made to their courses. During the first few weeks of term, colleagues and I will provide a series of short emails, introducing aspects of our processes and systems, as well as providing information relevant to the particular point in time.

I am writing to provide you with some information about an early opportunity to meet with your son / daughter’s tutor, and with some information about Wisepay, the college payments system.

New Parents’ and Carers’ Event

On Tuesday 20th September, tutors will be available for a face to face or video call meeting with parents and carers of students who have enroled at Bishop Laney Sixth Form this September. This is the first of two opportunities to meet with your son / daughter’s tutor, the second being during the routine Parents’ and Carers’ Evening, later in the year.

Initially, tutors are available for two hours between 4pm and 6pm on this occasion, however arrangements can be made for a call at another time should the available slots be unsuitable.

Appointments may be conducted in person, at the Bishop Laney Centre, or by video call for those parents for whom it is more convenient to use this method.

On this occasion, to arrange an appointment with your son / daughter’s tutor during Tuesday afternoon’s event; or to request a call back at another time, please reply to this email, detailing any particular request or availability.

Our email inbox is monitored periodically during the weekend. Alternatively, we can be contacted by telephone to 01353 652818 on Tuesday.

Following the two-hour slot for meeting tutors, we will be broadcasting an online information talk at 6:30pm, providing general information relating to college life and our processes, with an opportunity for those watching to ask questions via our live chat. Access information for this online event will be shared during the course of Tuesday, prior to the Parents’ and Carers’ Event.

Wisepay – Parent and Carer Payments

You can access Wisepay to make payments for trips, visits and to purchase kit, equipment and textbooks which departments make available. The Wisepay system is integrated with Ely College allowing you to use one account to make payments in relation to both Bishop Laney and Ely College students.

New Wisepay accounts are created initially with the parent email address provided to the college; and the password can be set on first use by using the ‘reset password’ function. Should you have a query regarding the use of the Wisepay system, or encounter difficulties accessing your account, please contact office@bishoplaney.org where my colleagues will try to help.

In next week’s email, we will provide information about our conduct and attendance procedures, and the financial support available for students.

Should you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us by phone to 01353 652818 or by replying to this email.
