Check out the latest edition of the regular newsletter here. It includes all the latest news and achievements from Bishop Laney Sixth Form and our students.
Below are some news highlights taken from it:
As the term draws to a close, we are grateful for the time to reflect on what has been an excellent year for Bishop Laney Sixth Form. Our year 12 transition students look forward to receiving their GCSE results in English and Maths next month, and our departing Year 13s await their results to take them to the next stage. For many, this will be a continuation of their education, either to University or into high-quality apprenticeships, and we wish them all the best whilst we await the outcomes. It is also the time when Norwich football students start to enter their pre-season training and the year 11 coming through are in college working with the coaches and boys.
Any Bishop Laney 6th form student who is off ill, must contact the Bishop Laney team on the morning of their absence.

We continue to receive interest in our study programmes for 2018 from students throughout East Cambridgeshire. This continued interest combines with an initial rise in applications to give us an increase of approximately 70% on applications at the same time last year. Our programmes for next year are taking shape and promise an array of opportunities combined with high-quality subject provision; work experience, business mentoring, PLEDGES+ days, mental health and wellbeing training, and the opportunities to stand for election as ‘Course Reps’, and later in the year, Student Council. All of which contribute to the enriching experience which we are proud to offer.
6th Form Away Day
We held our first student-led away day at the end of June. This provided an opportunity for students from both year groups to celebrate their achievements and have a great time in the enjoyable surroundings of Alton Towers. Planned by a group of business studies students as part of their Event Management unit, the day was a great success with students, even at this stage of the year, forming new friendships and creating new memories as they go their separate ways over the summer and beyond. It’s an event we will be keen to repeat and expand on in the years to come, so watch this space for details of next year’s away day…
Pledges+ Mock Interview Day
The June Pledges Day saw Bishop Laney students in year 12, continuing into year 13, working with a range of business personnel from the local area to develop some of their application and interview skills. What a fantastic opportunity for the students to benefit from the expertise of business men and women from the local area. Prior to the day students had to complete their CV. Students took part in two mock interviews, and gained feedback on their CV and interviews from the two business personnel they worked with. The feedback from the students and volunteers was overwhelming. A huge thanks goes to the Cathedral for their support in organising and running the day.
Peterborough Skills Show
This half term has been incredibly busy. Following the mock interview day, students visited the Peterborough Careers Fair where they could meet and discuss careers with over 150 businesses, across all sectors. The day saw over 6,000 students visit Peterborough Arena to glean information on application processes, University courses and apprenticeships.
Wishing you all a lovely summer break.
