Ely College

Key Stage 3

We are committed to improving the quality of education and life in Ely to ensure the young adults who leave our care are prepared for the next stage of their education and are ready and confident to move forward as responsible and employable citizens.

You can find out more about the Meridian Trust curriculum by clicking this link.

If you have any questions about our curriculum at Ely College then please contact our Vice Principal, Ms Rasmussen srasmussen@elycollege.co.uk

The Ely Curriculum delivers:

  • High-quality teaching and support through our House/Curriculum team structures;

  • A dynamic curriculum that provides academic and vocational courses to meet the needs of every student; in addition to a variety of different learning opportunities and experiences.

  • Personal support for every student by their tutor;

  • Effective monitoring of student performance against challenging individual targets;

  • Robust support systems and flexible and effective intervention programmes.

We believe that...

  • In Years 7 and 8 students should experience the broadest curriculum possible with exposure to a range of subjects taught in a manner that will allow them to progress to GCSE study
  • Students should be challenged to achieve their full potential. Whether they are more able in a subject or working below age-related expectations, work should be challenging and accessible enough to meet their particular needs
  • To aid the transition between primary and secondary school, having mixed attainment classes is the best start to secondary education students can receive
  • We are preparing students not just for exams, however important these might be, but also equipping them with the skills to be successful in life
  • Work should not be marked with a level achieved but with feedback and comments that always push students to improve

We believe that:

  • Our curriculum enables a wide range of progression routes.  This is supported by a strong career and guidance programme, including Work Experience to prepare students for work and life
  • Allowing students to choose elements of their own curriculum from Year 9 enhances their experience and improves outcomes.  We ensure that breadth and balance is projected by retaining FOUR option subjects and providing close guidance to ensure that students are supporting in making the right choices
  • Students should be challenged to achieve their full potential.  Whatever a students starting point, all students will be set a minimum target grade then supported and challenged to exceed that target
