Activities on offer @ Ely

Each year there are activities taking place for which we choose to alter the timetabled week for some or all the students in the year group.

These include:
• a week of work experience for all students in Year 10 and for which the preparation and de-brieifng are covered in a variety of subject areas
• an activity day at the end of each term for students in all years who have worked and behaved well.

There are supported study facilities from 3.00 – 4.30pm from Monday to Thursday in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC). Staff are there to help the students make best use of the resources available, as well as offer support with aspects of work that students find difficult. All students who live in villages in our natural catchment area are taken home, free of charge, at the end of each afternoon session.

Students with interests beyond the classroom will find a wealth of activities in which to become involved. Our termly College newspaper ‘Outlook’, itself largely the product of student contributions, reflects how busy the College is as far as extra-curricular activities are concerned.

Sporting facilities are open to students during the lunch break, and after school we run a range of successful teams in different sports competing against other schools. There are also after school activities in Art, Drama, Music, Science, ICT and various areas of Technology.

There is usually a ski trip, as well as other foreign visits, including modern language exchanges. Those with an interest in drama will be able to get involved in a full College production or one of the termly drama club presentations.

There are also two concerts each year to showcase the talents of our musicians. The full range of extra-curricular activities is published each autumn. There are also many whole-school and year-based activities, such as bowling, ice-skating, swimming, theme park trips, discos and parties.
Year 11 and the Sixth Form in particular have great fun organising their formal annual prom and May Ball respectively, as well as barbecues and revues.
