Supportive Learning
The key people for every student and for you, the parent, are your child's form tutor, the Assistant Head of Year and the Head of Year.Year 7 students
meet their form tutors and Head of Year during the induction days before the new College year begins. After that, if there are matters where
contact is necessary, whether this is to do with work, achievement, discipline and behaviour, or outstanding success in some aspect of College life,
the Head of Year or the form tutor are the most likely contacts as they will have a fuller understanding of each individual student.
Inclusion for all
Sometimes students require additional help because they are experiencing learning difficulties or are especially talented. We are fortunate in
having an experienced teamof learning support assistants and specialist teachers, who, togetherwith a range of counsellors and outside agencies,
are able to meet the unique needs of each student. We have also appointed a teaching assistant to work closely with students for whom English
is a second language.
Gifted and Talented Students
Students identified as gifted or talented are given additional opportunities outside themain curriculumin College. Recently, these have included
attending a range of sciencemasterclasses in conjunctionwith King’s School and Cambridge University, debating famous Britonswith King’s School,
attending maths challenge competitions in the county and weekly creative writing workshops.
Learning Support Department
The Learning Support Department supports students who have a range of learning difficulties in a variety of different ways. The most obvious is
in-class support where our team of teaching assistants support the learning in main stream lessons. Some students are offered one to one support
outside the classroomeither for intensive literacy teaching from a specialist teacher or froma teaching assistant who needs to explain curriculum
content more carefully without the distractions of the classroom. Some students receive small group teaching for Maths at a basic level in Year 7.

Disability Access
The College will make every effort to enable access for all students to
all areas of the curriculum. If a child has a physical disability, medical
condition or mobility difficulties, reasonable steps will be taken by
the College to ensure access to lessons with his/her peers is possible,
for example, changing the location of a group to accommodate the
student’s needs.
Ely, Littleport and Witchford Locality Team
This team includes Education Welfare Officers, Connexions Personal
Advisers,YouthWorkers, In School Behaviour Support Teachers, Parent
Support Advisors and Early YearsWorkers. They play an important role
in the College. They are able to provide an integrated support service
for students, informed by a close working relationship with the school
and its partner primary schools, and the services they have to offer, as
well as good partnerships with health colleagues, the police and
voluntary sector. The team acts as a gateway to more specialised
services based at area and county levels.
Preparing Students for Education and the World of Work
The Careers Education and Guidance programme in the College is
designed to help our students make informed choices and decisions
about careers and the Further Education opportunities available to them.
We aim to provide young people with an insight and understanding of
the changing world of work and its implications for them.
