Key Stage 3 Curriculum Overview
In the first three years of the education at Ely, students learn to become more independent and develop methods of work that will carry them through their later career in the college. The key stage 3 programme of study is set out by the National Curriculum, but at Ely we have supplemented the students education by including Business Education and Drama in the core subjects. As a Business and Enterprise college, we are dedicated to ensuring that all students have a good grounding in business related courses.
At Key Stage 3 (Years 7 - 9) all students take:
• English, including English Literature
• Mathematics
• Modular Science
• Modern Foreign Language (French in Year 7, with German
offered in Year 8)
• Physical Education and Games
• Technology
• History
• Geography
• Religious Education
• Business Education and ICT
• Music
• Art
• Drama
• Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education, including Citizenship
Students are often placed in sets according to their abilities in a subject, Subjects such as Mathematics, choose to set from the very beginning, whilst others introduce setting more gradually. The Arts subjects, such as Drama, Music and Art, prefer to teach in mixed ability groups throughout Years
7 and 8, setting only in Year 9.
