Vocational Qualifications
Key Stage 4 - Years 10 and 11
Preparation for Working Life GCSE
Students will be encouraged to develop their understanding of the world of work. In Year 11 students are given additional support to consider their future and to make applications for post-16.
Course Content
The subject is divided into nine main sections:
- Personal Awareness
- Healthy Lifestyles for work-life balance
- Relationships and the Differences Between People
- The Changing World of Work
- Applying for Jobs and Courses
- Economic and Financial Aspects of Life
- Employment Opportunities
- Enterprise Activities
- Hazard Identification at Home, on the Roads and at Work
It is anticipated that the delivery of the course will take broadly the same amount of time as a GCSE.
Assessment
Written Paper (1.5 hours) - 80% of overall assessment
The paper comprises three compulsory sections:
- Section A consists of multiple choice questions
- Section B requires short answers
- Section C requires longer, structured answers
Coursework - 20% of overall assessment
Candidates are required to produce written or word-processed work containing three pre-defined elements:
- A letter of application for a job or course to accompany a curriculum vitae
- A curriculum vitae
- Notes on interview preparation
