Physics @Key Stage 5
Exam board: OCR
Why study Physics?
Physics is an essential requirement formany careers in Science,
Engineering and Medicine. Employers in many other fields,
value the problem solving nature of the subject.
The study of Physics at AS and A2 level should be seen as making a contribution towards life-long learning and an
understanding of technological advances and their impact on
modern day society.
What will you study?
The course is divided into topics, each covering different key
concepts in Physics. Applications of Physics are covered
throughout the specification.
AS Units
Unit 1 - Mechanics
Unit 2 - Electrons,Waves and Photons
Unit 3 - Internal assessment
A2 Units
Unit 1 - NewtonianWorld
Unit 2 - Fields, Particles and Frontiers of Physics
Unit 3 - Internal assessment of practical tasks set by the
examining board
Method of assessment
In each year there will be two examinations plus an internally
assessed practical task, with AS and A2 marks contributing
equally to the final A level grade.
Future prospects
The Advanced Physics specification has been designed to
prepare you to progress onto higher education, to follow
courses such as electronics, computer science, physics and all
engineering disciplines.
It is also a useful qualification for a
number of careers including engineering and gas, water,
electrical and environmental services.
