Ski Trip Blog - 1/2 term Feb 2010

During February half term, the City of Ely Ski Trip returned to Tonale, Italy. 4 members of staff accompanied 29 students to participate in Skiing or Snowboarding. There were a number of students new to the sports and many returning had been before.

All students progressed fantastically, developing their skills and tricks. The week started bright and sunny, with snow falling towards the end of the week. On the last day, students got to ski in some tough snowy conditions, which just gave the likes of Sophie Quarrier and Lauren Miller more reason to push on and cut up the slopes.

It was brilliant to see the excitement coming from the students, seeing them smiling and laughing continuously, even in their tired states after a long day of skiing, in the apre ski activities. In the evening, students took part in bum boarding, Ice Skating, went for a pizza night and disco and ended with presentation evening to celebrate their success!

Updates from Mr Patman throughout the trip ....

We are now coming to the end of day three. There has been a light fluttering of snow over night and during the morning with a bright and sunny finish to the afternoon. I have been lucky enough to ski with all the skiers, all of whom are making excellent progress. The boarders are having fun; each day providing new stories and excitement.

Evening activities (après ski) have been fantastic with students also now having taken part in Ice Skating, forming all sorts of patterns and some showing off their tricks. Tonight (Tuesday) we are off out for a Pizza at a local Italian Pizzeria.

Bright blue skies and loads of snow. The first day of skiing has whizzed by for everyone. The two beginners groups have made fantastic progress after spending 6 hours on the sunny slopes with the boarders learning some new tricks.  The more advanced skiers have travelled mile after mile across the vast slopes of the resort. Everyone left with tired smiles at the end of the day.

On the way to the hotel the group were taken for Bum Boarding. What a success; lots of laughing, squealing voices and beaming smiles. Check out the photos.
