C or above in Sport/PE
Why study Sport Level 3?
This is a course aimed at students with a keen interest in sport
and the sports sector. This qualification is typically (although
not exclusively) aimed at young people who are seeking a
career in the sports industry or wishing to further their studies
at level 3 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
At level 3, students continue to develop their knowledge and
understanding of the range of activities and environments
within the sports sector ? and now have the opportunity to
specialise in different aspects of sports performance and sport
development.
The focus remains on enhancing student?s employability, so all
units are directly relevant to real life work situations.
What will you Study?
AS - Year 12
During Year 12 students will complete the National Certificate.
One full A level equivalent. (4mandatory units and 2 specialist units)
AS - Year 13
During Year 13 students will complete the National Diploma.
One full A level equivalent. (4mandatory units and 8 specialist units)
At the end of the two years students will have achieved the
equivalent of two full A levels.
The individual units are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.

- Unit 3 - Principles of Sport Coaching
- Unit 4 - Sport in the UK
Optional Units (units will depend on the nature of the cohort)
- Unit 5 - Learning and Developing Sport Skills
- Unit 6 - Health and Safety in Sport
- Unit 7 - Anatomy and Physiology for Sport and Exercise
- Unit 12 - Work Experience in the Sports Industry
- Unit 13 - Training and Fitness
- Unit 14 - Sport and Exercise Psychology
- Unit 15 - Injury in Sport
- Unit 16 - Analyse and Improve Performance
- Unit 17 - Nutrition for Sport and Exercise
- Unit 22 - Sport Marketing
The course will be a combination of classroom based lessons,
practical lessons and student lead activities. The amount of
practical and theory lessons will vary depending on the units
being taught at a particular time.
Method of assessment
With OCR Nationals, there are no exams, so students are not
under pressure to perform in a one-off test. Instead,
assessment and learning is supported throughout the course to
give students a much better indication of their progress, and a
greater chance of success. The assessment will take place in many
different formats including, written assessments, project?s,
observations, presentations and managed activities.
Future prospects
These qualifications will prepare students to enter further study
at a variety of degree or HND level courses. It will give all
students the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and
understanding that will prepare them for entry in employment
at operative or supervisory level within a wide range of sport
related environments.
