Physical Education

Welcome to the PE Department.
The Physical Education department has the following basic aims: • to encourage all students to develop physical competence and enable them to engage in worthwhile physical activities • to develop artistic and aesthetic understanding within and through movement • to help all students to establish self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and help students to cope with success and failure in competitive and co-operative physical activities.
Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3 students have two hours of PE and Games each week. The activities/major games offered to this group are selected from the National Curriculum designated areas and differ slightly in Years 7, 8 and 9. Listed below is an outline of what boys and girls will cover during Key Stage 3.

The curriculum aims to develop student’s knowledge and understanding of skills required in sports with tactics and composition as well as students’ understanding of health active lifestyle. Students are taught how to acquire and develop skills, how to select and apply skills in a game environment and how to evaluate their own performance and the performance of others. There is also a strong emphasis on health and fitness across the Key Stage.
Key Stage 4
In Key Stage 4 students have one hour of games each week. The activities offered to this group tend to reflect the trend in the National Curriculum and provide continuity from Key Stage 3, providing opportunities for the actual playing of games.
Additionally, both GCSE PE and BTEC Sport are offered as options.
