The Maths Department
Key Stage 4 - Years 10 and 11
We are awaiting further clarification of examination syllabuses that will qualify for the English Baccalaureate and we will ensure that the course meets this requirement. Below are broadly the areas of mathematics that will be studied.
Course Aims
The aims of the course are:
- To enable you to enjoy the challenge of mathematics
- To increase your knowledge of mathematics
- To improve your mathematical skills
- To deepen your understanding of mathematics
- To improve your ability to appreciate pattern and think logically
- To develop your ability to apply mathematical ideas in other subjects and life generally
- To solve problems
- To apply mathematics to real life problems
Assessment Objectives
Students will be required to:
- Recall and use knowledge of prescribed content:
- number
- algebra
- geometry
- measures
- probability
- statistics
- Select and apply mathematical methods in a range of contexts
- Interpret and analyse problems and generate strategies to solve them
Assessment Grades
The intention is to enter all students for GCSE Mathematics at one of two tiers of entry:
- Higher - Grades A*, A, B, C or D
- Foundation - Grades C, D, E, F or G
Progression
This subject can currently be studied at A/S and A2 Level at Ely Sixth Form Centre.
