Ely IT Systems : Data Centre & Computer Systems

In the summer of 2009 the college invested in a new data centre and virtualised all our existing servers.
VMware's vSphere4 was selected and is now currently running 90% of the college servers.

The college has a range of Dell Poweredge & IBM servers, connected to a 4.7TB Dell equillogic SAN and two cross campus backup solutions.
Each server (whether it be virtual or physical) is dedicated to a specific task which provides the college users with the maximum performance possible.
All of the servers run either Windows 2008 R2 Server or Windows 2003 R2 Server as part of an active directory domain.
We use a product called NetManager which provides us with a NetBSD firewall and student e-mail solution.

There are currently (Nov 09) 567 computers on the network which includes desktops, laptops and staff machines.
Computer suites are located strategically around the site and all have either a projector and smartboard installed or a large Plasma screen.

All computers run Microsoft Windows XP with Office 2007.
