Why study Geography?
Key features of the Geography course:
- Emphasises a balanced understanding of physical and
human geography.
- Focuses on understanding the interrelationships between
people and their varied environments, and the questions,
issues and problems which arise from these relationships.
- Supports an enquiry approach to learning, thus encouraging
a variety of teaching and learning styles.
- Uses geographical study as a medium for the development
of both general and geographical skills. The specification is
designed to provide maximum opportunities for the
acquisition of key skills.
- Explores the special contribution made by geography and
geographers in the development of possible solutions to
current environmental problems and resourcemanagement
issues, and in locational decision making.
This is a very popular course and can be combined with a wide
variety of other option subjects but these often include
Business Studies, Mathematics and Science. Fieldwork is an
essential part of Geography and students take part in a number
of day exercises plus a residential field course.
