Diploma Qualifications

The Diploma is a new qualification which combines classroom learning with hands–on experience. It provides the best of both worlds – it isn’t just a purely academic or a purely work–based option. Diplomas will help you to develop work–relevant skills, as well as English, maths and ICT, in a creative and enjoyable way. It will appeal to students of all abilities and aspirations, giving you more choice and flexibility in your learning.

Diplomas are offered by schools and colleges working in partnership, so you may have the chance to do some of your learning in other schools, colleges or the workplace.

Diplomas can be studied at different levels. In Years 10 and 11 you can take the following:

  • The Foundation Diploma which will lead to the equivalent of 5 GCSEs grades D to G
  • The Higher Diploma will lead to the equivalent of 7 GCSEs grades A* to C

All Diplomas count as two of the subjects you will study.

Progression

All of the Diplomas are designed to enable students to progress through the academic A/S and A2 pathway, as well as to follow a vocational pathway into a specialist aspect of the diploma post-16.
