KS5 Design and Technology: Textiles

Why study Textiles?
Textiles is ideal for you if you have an interest in fashion and the
fashion industry. Though it also suits students wishing to work
in related areas such as textiles in boating, the car industry, for
aircrafts and for the home.
If you are not wishing to follow a career in textiles, the course
will enable you to develop the skills you have learnt at GCSE
and provide you with an opportunity to make some more
textile products.
As with all technology subjects, Textiles will help you develop
life skills such as problem solving, working with others, giving
presentations, carrying out research, using ICT, and developing
manipulative skills.
What will you study?
Year 12 (AS)
Unit 1: Materials, Components and Manufacturing
Unit 2: Learning through Designing and making
Year 13 (A2)
Unit 3: Further Materials, Components and Manufacturing;
Unit 4: Design and making practice
Method of assessment
Unit 1: 2 hour written paper
Unit 2: 50 hours coursework (internally assessed)
Unit 3: 2 hour written paper
Unit 4: 60 hours coursework (internally assessed)
Future prospects
The course will prepare you for entry to courses or training to
become a patternmaker, lay planner, designer, garment
technician, cutter, product developer, materials buyer, presser
or production technician.
It will also be ideal for students wishing to work in other areas
of the textile industry such as textiles in boating, the car
industry, for aircrafts and for the home. |
