C or above in ICT or related subject and C or above in English Language
Why study ICT?
This OCR National Level 3 Certificate in ICT offers students a
more in-depth look at ICT in the modern workplace and gives
and an insight into its role in specialist careers. As an alternative
to exam-based courses, this qualification provides on-going
learning and assessment of the practical skills and knowledge
required to succeed in ICT-related careers. Students acquire the
ability to work independently and adopt standard ways of
working.
Students may opt for the Level 3 Diploma Option which is the
equivalent to the study and credit of 2 A Levels. The Diploma
requires students to study six additional units which will be
confirmed at the commencement of the course, but will
encompass both ‘creative’ and ‘web-based’ skills and knowledge.
Students will need access to computing facilities outside of
lessons.
What will you study?
The course comprises of six units which are all coursework based
and moderated when the student has completed each unit.
Unit 1: Digital Business
Students develop their skills in communicating in a business
and learn how to use ICT in effective business communications.
Unit 2: Collaborative Working
By successfully completing this unit, students will have gained
an understanding of collaboration as an essential skill in
working towards a final product in ICT related projects.
Unit 3: Problem Solving
Students develop skills and knowledge which enable them to
use various techniques to analyse and interpret numerical data.
Unit 4: Creating a Digital Showcase
This unit teaches the skills required to develop an interactive
media product to showcase an event or situation.
Unit 7: Desktop Publishing
Students plan, draft, develop and create a technically complex
DeskTop Publishing publication to meet a design brief and target audience.
Unit 18: Computer Games Technology
This unit looks at the ongoing evolution of computer games
technologies.
Unit 24: Internet: Past, Present and Future
Students learn about the history and growth of the Internet,
the implications of its use and its future potential.
Future prospects
ICT is integral to so many careers in the 21st century, so a
level 3 qualification has a huge value. It is also an ideal
course for anyone wishing to study any IT or computing based
course at university, including games technology, web design,
programming etc.
