Why study ICT?

This OCR National Level 3 in ICT offers you amore in-depth look at ICT in themodernworkplace and gives and an insight into its role in specialist careers. As an alternative to exam-based courses, this qualification provides on-going learning and assessment of the practical skills and knowledge required to succeed in ICT-related careers. You will acquire the ability to work independently and adopt standard ways of working.

You will need access to computing facilities outside of lessons.

What will you study?

The course comprises of six unitswhich are all coursework based and moderated when the student has completed each unit.

Unit 1: Digital Business
Students develop their skills in communicating in a business and learn how to use ICT in effective business communications.

Unit 2: Collaborative Working
By successfully completing this unit, students will have gained an understanding of collaboration as an essential skill in working towards a final product in ICT related projects.

Unit 3: Problem Solving
Students develop skills and knowledge which enable them to use various techniques to analyse and interpret numerical data.

Unit 4: Creating a Digital Showcase
This unit teaches the skills required to develop an interactive media product to showcase an event or situation.

Unit 7: Desktop Publishing
Students plan, draft, develop and create a technically complex DTP publication to meet a design brief and target audience.

Unit 18: Computer Games Technology
This unit looks at the ongoing evolution of computer games technologies.

Method of assessment
Assessment is via portfolios created for each unit.

Future prospects
ICT is integral to so many careers in the 21st century, so a level 3 qualification has a huge value. It is also an ideal
course for anyone wishing to study any IT or computing based course at university, including games technology, web design, programming etc.
