C or above in English Language, or C or above in Leisure and Tourism
Why study Leisure Studies?
Leisure Studies helps you develop the skills and techniques
related to participation, leadership and organisation within the
leisure industry, in addition to an understanding of the current
issues,working practices and procedures of the leisure industry.
It develops an understanding of the importance of the customer
to the leisure industry and recognises the contribution and
impact of technology on the leisure industry and its potential
effect on the immediate future.
Leisure Studies develops an understanding and appreciation
of the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle and an interest
in leisure in a vocational context.
What will you study?
AS - Year 12
Unit 1 - The Leisure Industry Today
An introduction to what the leisure industry consists of, how
big and how economically important it is.
Unit 2 - A People business
How leisure organisations deal with their customers to provide
a service that meets the aims of the organisation. It involves
customer service theory.
Unit 3 - Getting it Right in the Leisure Industry
How leisure organisations make sure that all their management
systems and record keeping works properly. This involves an
in depth study of one organisation of the student’s choice.
A2 - Year 13
Unit 4 - Leisure in Action
In this unit students will work as part of a team to plan, carry out and
evaluate a real project that is relevant to the leisure industry.
Unit 5 - Working in the People Business
This unit will enable students to investigate the wide range of career
opportunities available in the leisure industry.
Unit 6 - Current Issues
This unit allows students to examine one topic in depth at either local
or national level and research the reasons behind the issue.
Method of assessment
In both the AS and A2 courses, there is one examination and two pieces of coursework.
Future prospects
The A level in Leisure Studies aims to encourage you to develop
broad skills, knowledge and understanding of the leisure
industry, which will prepare you for further study or training in
the leisure industry and related occupations.
