Key Stage 4 - Years 10 and 11
Business Studies GCSE
Business Studies helps students understand more about how and why businesses operate in the way they do. Students are able to relate what they study to everyday activities, such as purchasing goods, and the news reported in the media. As well as developing students’ knowledge and understanding of the world of business, this course helps students to develop a range of skills such as:
- decision making
- interpreting and managing information
- devising solutions to problems and issues
Aims
- To encourage students to develop a lifelong interest in, and enjoyment of, business subjects.
- To develop and apply their knowledge, understanding and skills to understand today’s issues in local, national and global contexts and to consider the extent to which a business or economic activity can be ethical and sustainable, for example in relation to social and environmental considerations in production and its location.
Content
- Unit 1 Business Start-up - students will study Business Start-up, Production and Marketing.
- Unit 2 Business Development - students will study Finance, Managing People, Business Growth and how to write a Business Plan.
Scheme of Assessment
- Unit 1 25% of the total GCSE marks - Controlled assessment, 60 marks
- Unit 2 25% of the total GCSE marks - 1 hour written paper, 60 marks
- Unit 3 50% of the total GCSE marks - 1.5 hours written paper, 90 marks
Progression
This subject can currently be studied at A/S and A2 Level at Ely Sixth Form Centre.
