Skills and attitudes learnt through musical activity have an impact on students' learning right across the curriculum. Research shows that studying music can enable students in their development of critical thinking, spacial reasoning and cognitive skills.
It helps develop communication skills, going beyond verbal communication, and encourages creativity and the expression of emotion, feelings and ideas. Performance of music in groups helps students develop teamwork skills, self discipline, self esteem and the ability to listen to others.
Music learning in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities has a positive impact on school ethos, relationships within the school community, and relationships out of school, in the local community and beyond.
