Drama Department @ Key Stage 5

Course entry requirements

B or above in Drama and English Language

Why study Drama and Theatre Studies?

Students can pursue their interests and develop their skills in a range of practical drama elements including acting, directing, costume, setting, mask and technical design. However, the requirements of the specification, with its 60% written paper weighting, also enable students to gain an entry qualification for courses in higher education, whether in the area of drama and theatre studies or in a host of other subjects.

What will you study?

The course offers students the freedom to choose both the content and the form of their practical presentations at each level.
At AS, candidates perform an extract from any play selected to illustrate their understanding of an influential director, designer, theatre company or other practitioner.
At A2, candidates devise their own drama on any topic to be performed in a theatrical style of their choice

Future prospects

Our course is deliberately intended to develop skills that will help you create your ownworking opportunities and allowyou to go on to further education institutions. It allows you to possibly even gain employment in one of the many aspects of the theatre industry. In the past pupils have gone on to professional careers as producers, playwrights and production managers in the world of theatre; others have formed events companies, found work in media and arts organisations or followed careers in teaching. Many have also pursued further courses in vocational performer training or postgraduate opportunities here or elsewhere.
