Course entry requirements
C or above in Art, Applied Art or Creative Textiles
Why study Art?
If you wish to continue and expand your interest in Art beyond
the GCSE examination, this is a stimulating and varied course.
In addition to developing existing skills, the course is designed
to introduce you to a wider appreciation of the subject and to
challenge you with new applications. You may work in a wide
choice of media including painting and drawing, sculpture,
ceramics and printmaking.
What will you Study?
AS - Year 12
Unit 1 - Coursework Portfolio - 25%
- Students produce a portfolio of work from starting points, topics or themes given to them. this can comprise of a single, sustained project, theme or course of study, a number of smaller projects or combination of work presented in sketchbooks and/or mounted on sheets or any other appropriate format.
- The focus is on including work that shows exploration, research, acquisition of techniques and skills.
Unit 2 - Controlled Assignment - 25%
- Students select one starting point from an externally set exam paper.
- Students are given a set period of time to produce preparatory work.
- Students are then given 5 hours of controlled time to work on developing their idea into a realisation/outcome.
A2 - Year 13
Unit 3 - Personal Investigation - 25%
- Students will develop work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their choice.
- The investigation includes a related personal study that must be between 1000 - 3000 words, which will include written material of a critical, analytical nature.
Unit 4 - Controlled Assignment - 25%
- Students select one starting point from an externally set question paper.
- Students will have a set period of time to produce a clearly defined selection of work which will lead to a finished piece.
- Students are then given 15 hours controlled time in which they work to plan and realise their ideas into a final outcome
Method of assessment
At the end of each year all components will be assessed via
internal and external moderation.

Art lends itself to a variety of fields such as: Advertising,
Architecture,Art Direction,Art ducation,Art History,Art Criticism,
Art Conservation, Art Therapy, Commercial and Industria lDesign,
Fashion Design, Fine Art, Film and Television, Gallery Direction,
Gaming, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Product
Design, Publication Design, Studio Art,Visual Art and Web Design.
