Careers Centre
Careers education is delivered in a variety of ways during the school year. Students in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 will be involved in aspects of careers
work during Conference Days and it is during this time that we do much of the preparation work for post 16 progression with Year 11 and post
17/18 choices with Years 12 and 13.
The College works closely with Cambridgeshire Connexions Service who offer a range of services to young people including careers work involving
group and individual interviews with students, offering them impartial help and advice.
Our work experience programme has been running successfully formany years. It provides the opportunity for all Year 10 students to experience
work at Rrst hand by giving thema placement with local industry and commerce. Preparation work for this is carried out by our Business Studies
department and our careers staff. Provision can be made for extra work experience in Key Stage 4 and we are continuing to develop our work
related learning programme. Sixth Form students may take part in longer periods of work experience in more specialised placements.
A well-stocked Careers Library is available both to Sixth Form and main school students, giving access to career information/descriptions, entry
requirements and employment detail, via computers, CDROMs and videos, in addition to a large variety of prospectuses for local Sixth Form Colleges,
FE Colleges and Universities. Students are encouraged to use these facilities and to explore the possibilities for their future as fully as possible.
We have a very active Careers Officer who works closely with all areas of the College to help students have a stress free transition fromschool into
their chosen career path.
Throughout, the student is central to this learning process. We hope that they will take the opportunity to be involved in careers interviews and
that they will seek out relevant information by using all the facilities and expertise available to them. |
